On the 21st of May 2009, we left the UK to head over to Vienna, Austria, for the second ever Redbull: Art of Motion international Freerunning gatherings. The event brought together a collective of 27 athletes representing the UK, USA, Sweden, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, Austria, Egypt, Spain, Belgium, Latvia and France. As Urban Freeflow, we took Paul ‘Blue Devil’ Joseph, George ‘G-Force’ Mayfield, Franck ‘Cali’ Nelle, Tim ‘Livewire’ Shieff, Marwan ‘Majora’ Elgamal and Andrej ‘Djuxa’ Turanov as competing athletes. Making up a panel of 4 judges was UF team manager and World Freerun Association representative, Paul ‘Ez’ Corkery. In addition were John ‘Kerbie’ Kerr who performed a series of live stage sets and Claudiu Voicu who was an official event photographer. His photo’s here tell the story from our perspective. The event itself was another cracker and we’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate and thank Alex Zika and his staff at Redbull for going beyond the call of duty to make everything run so seamlessly. i can only think of 1 word… SWEET
It really was an awesome experience. Sure, there were a few issues with the obstacles layout but the success of the event came from the vibe created by the athletes. Yes, it was a competition but it was all done in a friendly and supportive way with everyone just amped to be a part of something so special.
Can’t wait for the next one.
i hope i can make it to the next one.
awesome
The next big event to watch out for is the Barclaycard World Freerun Championships in August. It’ll be staged at a VERY prestigious outdoor venue in London but until the official press release is dropped, we can’t say much more than that.
Keep an eye on the site for more info……
