What is fractured Collar Bone?

The collar bone (or clavicle) is the bone that runs along the front of the shoulder to the breast bone (sternum). This bone is usually fracture as a result of falling badly onto an outstretched arm or onto the shoulder. we've had reports of people rolling badly and in some cases, bashing their shoulders on the floor due to not working on their basics. The chances of a clavicle fracture are increased if the landing is particularly hard (concrete). The bone usually fractures in it's middle third and is very painful.

 


Symptoms Include?

  • Pain on the collar bone!
  • Swelling.
  • A bony deformity may be seen or felt.

What can the traceur do?

  • If you suspect you have a fractured collar bone, you should go to see a doctor immediately.

What can be done by a specialist?

  • Immobilize the bone with a figure of eight bandage.
  • Provide pain relief.

  • Operate if necessary.

The injury is likely to take 4 to 8 weeks to heal. You should not do any sports or even running until it has properly healed.
