CamelBak trailblazer hydration pack
 |
OK, so I'll be the first to admit
that having a pack on your back can hinder movement especially if you roll a lot
when out running. But at least for myself, there's some essentials that I bring
to every jam. Other than the common cameras and cell-phone, the most important
item is water. Yes, you can buy water while you're out. But if you are
financially challenged, you'll want to bring at least some water along. Of
course, you can always carry around a gallon jug, but talk about hindering
freedom of movement!! The best solution I've found is a hydration pack, and
CamelBak has been the industry standard for awhile.
According to the CamelBak website, the Trail Blazer features:
• Full-zip back panel access makes loading a full reservoir easy
• Easy fill, easy clean via the OMEGA™ Reservoir
• Includes the patented HydroLock™
• Air Channel™ back panel with internal frame sheet
• Dual compression straps keeps load stable
• Multiple cargo spaces includes main compartment, exterior pocket for
small gear, plus dual side mesh pockets – perfect for keeping
essentials handy
• Includes waist belt and sternum strap
• Wicking mesh back panel keeps you comfortable
• Strap management secures loose webbing
All of this comes together to make an excellent pack for PK. It's small enough
to stay out of the way (I can do aerials with mine on and full of water and
gear), while still having ample room for the essentials. The strap management
system keeps the load secure and close to your back, enhancing freedom of
movement. The water reservoir is big enough to keep you hydrated for about 2-3
hours, and it passed the Outdoor Magazine burst test, which includes filling the
bladder to capacity and running it over with a jeep!!
All in all, I think this is an excellent addition to the free-runner's arsenal,
keeping you hydrated and prepared for less-than-perfect
situations (packable rain jackets and small first aid kits come to mind), while
basically staying tucked out of the way.
The Trail Blazer runs at about $70, which seems expensive at first, but the
quality of the product is well worth it. Overall, a great value. You can
also find cheaper ones so shop around before buying. ;)
Style - Small compact, subtle colour scheme keeps
you stealthy. 5/5
Fit - This pack fits me perfectly, though it may be too small for people with a
longer torso. But CamelBak makes packs for all
sizes, check out their website for other products. 4/5
Weight - Very light, and it carries whatever weight you put in it well.

Durability - very durable, rip-stop nylon construction. Burst-proof bladder.

Value - A bit pricey, but well worth the money. 4/5
Overall - Not necessarily essential, but it will make your PK life much easier!!
