Stand and sit wobble disc
 |
Most recently I did some minor
damage to my knee from excessive Parkour training. One of our friends from
France (Forrest) happens to be a sports physiotherapist and he gave me a load of
different exercises to help strengthen my knees. One of the many
variations given was balancing one foot at a time on railings. The
exercises themselves proved to be a great help, but I still had worries in the
back of my mind. By complete accident I was hooked up with a specialist at
the Balance Physio studio in
London who deals specifically with knee injuries. I paid him a visit as
the Jump UK filming was about to kick off and I had serious doubts about my
chances of taking part. Again I was given specific exercises to alleviate
pressure from the inflamed area, but I was also given one of these inflatable
wobble discs to speed up the process.
Oh my God!! These babies are
amazing. From using mine, I have managed to strengthen my knees and at the
same time improved my own level of balance which I thought was already spot on.
I've read through all the blurb and noticed that aside from helping with knee
problems, they are also useful for ankle ones too along with a bunch of other
areas. Recently I've noticed a lot of grumbles on the forums about people
hurting ankles from rail precisions and tweaking their knees from excessive
jumping, so it might be worth considering one of these discs. They weigh
in at about £25 which is very cheap considering what they offer in return.
Anyway, enough already.
Here's the blurb:
The Stand and Sit Disc (or wobble
cushion) is a brand new product that is an extremely versatile piece of
equipment that combines the advantages of a Gym (Swiss) Ball, Sitting wedge,
Wobble Board and Foot Massage. It can be used for a wide range of applications
ranging from active sitting, muscle strengthening and joint stabilisation.
The Stand and Sit Disc (or wobble
cushion) comes with it's own free pump for easy inflation or deflation, so you
can adjust the pressure to the desired firmness.
It can help people prevent back
pain, and back pain sufferers, turn the disc over so the small dimples are
facing upwards, then by using the Stand and Sit Disc as a seat cushion it helps
tones trunk and abdominal muscles without strain or effort. It helps to promote
an upright posture and active sitting. It can also be placed behind your back on
a seat in the lower back area, to improve posture and comfort. The Stand and Sit
Disc increases strength and flexibility in the back muscles, and helps with
mobilisation of the pelvic floor muscles.
The Stand and Sit Disc can also be used like a
balance board. Simply turn the disc so the small dimples are facing upwards and
by simply standing on the disc, you can improve posture, with abdominal and
trunk strengthening, along with increasing tone in the quadriceps, hamstrings
and calf muscles. If using the spiky side, you can also us it for foot massage
and stimulation.
It will retrain proprioception
(the sense of balance) after injury, preventing further injury and ensuring a
speedy return to sport.
*No star system for this product. I have one
and it works extremely well for me. If you are suffering from niggling
injuries and wish to explore a cheap and easy way to get back on track, give
these a look.
