Vew-Do
Board
 |
Want to take your balancing skills to the next level? This baby can do
that while also acting as a superb muscle strengthening tool. It can be used to
help build ultra resistance to all the ballistic movements that day to day
practise puts you through, and with practise can bring your balancing skills up
to a level that is near perfection.
My personal experience with the Bongo Boards was through my physio in London.
He was treating me for a patella tendonosis rupture (aka jumpers knee), and when
I'd reached a level where I could step up my level of physical activity, he
suggested a Bongo board. Being an old skool skater, I thought it'd be a
piece of cake and when the physio hopped on and did a demo, he confirmed my
feelings until I actually tried it for myself. I jumped on and quickly
found out to my dismay, that I was a fish out of water and was all over the
place. With some guidance, I soon began to get the hang of it and found it
to be an immensely challenging experience. Not only was it a real
challenge, but it forced me to really concentrate and in turn, become aware of
my own posture, body positioning and weight distribution. Since then this
piece of kit has been a firm favourite with me and has been introduced into my
daily routine of conditioning.
Benefits of using the Vew-Do Board
Balance - Static and Dynamic for enhanced sport and fitness participation.
Postural Awareness - To correct inefficient body movements with little
physical effort.
Proprioception - The body's internal mechanisms for enhancing muscular
movements that then call upon 'memories' stored in the muscles, bones and
connective tissues to repeat a performance later on.
Kinesthetic Sense - Enhances ability to judge the position of your body in
space.
Stability - Improve balance, reducing the risk of falls and injuries
associated with various sports and everyday activities.
Mobility - Retraining the body to move impulsively and freely without
limitation.
Body Awareness - Learn via feelings/stimulus created by the board to
instinctively be aware of muscles, muscle groups and limbs as they work to
stabilize the body.
Confidence - The direct result of learning body awareness through balance
conditioning.
Visual Challenge: To challenge your balance recovery ability, the following
exercises can be performed. Attempt only when a high confidence level has been
achieved on the Bongo Board.
- Play with eyes open and eyes closed during exercises.
- When eyes are opened, explore the balance challenge of gently moving the
head and neck up and down and then side to side.
- To enhance performance try to stabilize the head, neck and upper body.
- Focus vision ahead into the horizon, but soften your gaze to enhance the
peripheral field of vision. How far to the sides can you see while focusing
ahead?
Skill Progression: As you progress and gain confidence on your Bongo Board,
you may like to try some tricks to further enhance and develop your balance
coordination.Visit

the 20th of September 2005 the Seidojin team will be doing a live performance at
the Leisure Industry Week (LIW) at the NEC in Birmingham. While there, we
will be pressure testing the Vew-Do boards in an up close and personal manner.

Weight - Lightweight bit of kit which
doesn't take up any storage space and can easily be moved about wherever.. 5/5
Durability - Made from Maple, its as
hard wearing as any skateboard on the market. As long as you don't attempt
to emulate Tony Hawk, this board will last a lifetime.. 5/5
Value - Prices vary. Not cheap but a worthy investment. 4/5
Overall - For the purpose its built
for, this board cannot be faulted. As most within the sport will know, a
key factor in practising the disciple safely is to have a good sense of balance,
as it carries over to the rest of your game. For this alone its worth
getting, but with the added extras of this being something that can strengthen
you and also correct posture, its almost worth its weight in gold. 5/5
