It’s no secret that Parkour involves a fair amount of running. Sounds obvious, yet many traceurs neglect this basic component of efficient movement and never even attempt to improve their running technique. For all-round fitness and stamina, there are few better ways to get in shape than regular running. But the unforgiving surfaces we most commonly practise our discipline upon can be a runner’s worst nightmare: shin splints, knee injuries, back problems... the list of ailments that can develop from poor running on hard surfaces goes on and on. So it really is something we should take some time to think about.

Based on 25 years of professional research, the ‘Pose Method’ is a remarkable approach to running that reduces injuries and increases speed, stamina, and efficiency. Dr. Romanov’s method has been so successful that both the American and British Olympic Triathlon teams have taken him on as running coach, and they have not been disappointed with the results.

The Pose Method relies specifically on gravity for momentum and the rapid release of the foot from the ground, and is based around the maintaining of the ideal running ‘pose’ from step to step, in order to protect the skeleton as well as to remove extraneous movements and inefficient habits. Many of the exercises Dr. Romanov recommends to help you become a better runner are long-practiced traditions within the athletics communities, and there is no doubt that they work.

Dr. Romanov now lives and teaches in the United States; however, he does have a number of products out there which convey effectively his concept and his methodology. These include books and DVDs, most entitled simply the ‘Pose Method of Running’, and taken together they can give you all the information you need to begin applying his comprehensive and systematic approach to improved running.

Just like any other physical skill out there, running is something that we can all improve at. It just takes a little effort, some good research, and a diligent application of quality knowledge. Dr. Romanov has provided the last two: it’s up to the individual to bring the effort.

This concept is definitely worth looking into for anyone who is serious about running better, for longer.
